The Kentucky Spotted Bass

On 1956 the spotted bass became Kentucky’s state fish. It has spots on it’s back. It’s greenish-blue. It can be from 8-15 inches long. Some may weigh 6-9 pounds.

The bass was chosen as a Kentucky symbol for the fish because it can easily be found in many rivers and streams here. It’s known for it’s gaminess and fighting qualities. Also the bass is a delicious food for eating in Kentucky. It’s also caught for blue ribbons in fishing contests.
