Thoroughbred

 

The thoroughbred is Kentucky’s state horse. The
Thoroughbred is the fastest sprint horse in the world.

It has very strong legs. Its back is longer than other horses. It can weigh up to 1,000-1,200 pounds. It is the 2nd tallest horse. They are usually over 14 hands tall.

A lot of the thoroughbreds are bred in Kentucky. The thoroughbred was adopted in 1996.

The limestone in the soil here in Kentucky is good for the horses. It makes them stronger and the horses like the taste of the bluegrass. Horse racing is popular in Kentucky and there are a lot of facilities for the thoroughbred to race here. These horses are also bought and sold here.

The thoroughbreds are really popular in the Bluegrass region. Here, people race them at Keeneland in Lexington. Also people race them at the biggest race in the country at Churchill Downs in Louisville. This race is called "The Kentucky Derby." Mainly in the Bluegrass region you will find beautiful horse farms for these thoroughbreds to live. When you think of horses you think of Kentucky and thoroughbreds.
